pH (1% Solution) : Neutral
Dispersibility in water : Excellent
Solvent : Glycol
Applications
Textiles:
The textile industry uses large amounts of di-octyl sulfosuccinate in the processing of various fibres such as cotton, rayon, wool, silk, nylon, dacron orlon and other synthetics. It is used in the following textile.
processing areas:
– Desizing: The wetting power of this surfactant increases the penetration of the desizing agents which leads to a greater production uniformity of the desized cloth.
– Dyeing & printing: OAN DOSS will improve dyestuff dispersibility and solubility, yielding better colour values and greater uniformity.
– Wetting & Penetrating: Times can be reduced in finishing resin treatment operations by adding OAN DOSS to the finishing bath. OAN DOSS is anionic and must be compatible with the finishing resins in order to obtain optimum results. The use of OAN DOSS in manufacturing cotton towels, mopping yarns and wiping cloths, significantly improves absorbency.
Dry Cleaning :
In dry cleaning charge-soap systems, OAN DOSS facilitates the removal of water-soluble soils because of its detergent action and its ability to maintain a constant level of solubilized water in the cleaning solvent.
Agriculture
The addition of OAN DOSS to liquid fertilizers greatly improves feeding action. The spray action of insecticides and fungicides can also be improved by the use of OAN DOSS as an additive. Di-octyl sulfosuccinate markedly reduces the development of five virus diseases in bean plants and distinctly shows antiviral activity.
Cosmetics
Due to its hydrophilic properties, OAN DOSS is especially suitable for the preparation of oil-in-water emulsions for dermatological and cosmetic purposes. Bath oils consisting of white mineral oils or isopropyl myristate show improved spreading and less deposition on the walls of the bath tub when compounded with less than one percent of OAN DOSS.
